Support women in our community

When Delphine first came to Dress for Success Western Massachusetts, she had arrived from Tanzania only four months earlier. She started with our Foot in the Door workforce readiness program, and while she was quiet and reserved, she was not to be underestimated. Delphine took what she learned from this course and started her first job upon graduation. She demonstrated herself to be a hardworking, dedicated employee who worked onsite through the pandemic.

After graduating from the Foot in the Door program, she was paired with Jill, one of the volunteers in our Margaret Fitzgerald Mentoring program. It was a perfect match. Jill has over 18 years of experience in the medical field and Delphine’s dream is to be a doctor. With guidance from Jill, Delphine learned English, wrote her first resume, and learned to drive. “I’ve seen Delphine grow into a confident woman who is pursuing her dreams in earnest. She’s working and providing for her family. To help someone achieve their potential is transforming,” says Jill.

“I wasn’t sure who I was or what I could do on my own,” Delphine said. “Jill gave me the confidence to say, “I can do this!” In the past year, Delphine earned her Nurse Aide certificate which led her to a new job that she loves and the ability to purchase a home.

Dress for Success Western Massachusetts connects women like Delphine to vital, long-term networks of support. Through our programs, Delphine was joined by many supporters on her journey, like Shawntsi, her Foot in the Door instructor; Melissa, who conducted an online practice interview with her; and the women who donated clothing for her to wear during her interviews. And, of course, Jill, with whom Delphine has built a life-long friendship.
